Garden Spotlight Series – Tortola, Virgin Islands

Back in the Virgin Islands after several weeks traveling throughout the United States! Happy to be here! Sending love to the entire community during these times. As long as we continue to stick together, we will prevail.

That being said, food security is a priority at Unified Events. By celebrating the neighborhood farmers, we encourage others to join our efforts. This week we visit local communications director, Dawn Callwood on Tortola’s western end.

Ms. Callwood recently purchased a 4 acre hillside plot in the Virgin Islands territory. She shared with us her future plans to plant local fruit trees throughout the land.

In June, after trouble securing fresh produce she reused old pallets to plant a small patch beneath her patio, pictured below. Which has expanded to a two area harvest with arugula, pineapple, callaloo, bok choy, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, spinach, mint and more!

Direct sunlight and constant water has increased her harvest. Image Credit: Din Hen
